GSN is the latest company to benefit from the slew of executives leaving Zynga, having picked up Jeff Karp as Executive Vice President, Mobile and Social games. Karp’s first day at GSN is today.
Jeff Karp announced he was was leaving his position as Zynga’s Chief Marketing and Revenue officer on September 10, with his last schedule day at the company scheduled to be September 22. On September 20, GSN officially announced it had signed Karp on for the new position, likely creating an awkward final few days for him at Zynga. At GSN, Karp will be reporting to Peter Blacklow, the man in charge of GSN Digital. In his new position at GSN, Karp will oversee the company’s virtual currency business spanning mobile, social and open web platforms.
GSN is a strong brand for Karp to move to. Our AppData traffic-tracking service shows the company’s daily active users on Facebook generally holding steady between 1.37 million DAU and 1.47 million. Although this number is down from its March 2011 peak of 2.5 million DAU, DAU as a percentage of MAU is continuing to rise and currently sits above 30 percent. For context: When a Facebook game shows a DAU/MAU percentage greater than 20 percent, it’s considered to be a very healthy title in terms of traffic.
