How do you top a sold out, website-crashing guest collection from Missoni? By bringing in Jason Wu for a collection of clothing and accessories, maybe.
Target used its Twitter handle @TargetStyle to give followers five clues about who would be the next guest designer. WWD confirmed in a story today that Wu, who is best known for designing First Lady Michelle Obama’s one-shouldered inaugural gown, will be the next designer up for a guest spot. The new line, expected in February 2012, already has a hashtag, #JasonWuforTarget.
Wu, of course, got tons of buzz from the FLOTUS gown. But the designer, who’s only 29 years old, says he’s excited for the Target opportunity because “it allows me to reach a wider audience and bring my designs to people who may not have been able to purchase them before.”
FLOTUS has also been tossing some additional buzz Target’s way after she was caught by a lone AP photographer shopping in the store last week. (Some have found that curious, to say the least.)
Those of us who didn’t get anything from Target’s Missoni line and can’t afford to buy it on eBay are hoping to get a chance with Jason Wu in 2012. We wonder if Target will handle this next collaboration any differently to prevent the same brouhaha from happening.
