“Today I announce my resignation, so my colleagues can get back to work and my neighbors choose a new representative,” said the now-former Rep. Anthony Weiner.
With a four-minute speech, which came complete with a heckler, we hope, Weinergate comes to a close.
New York’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo will choose a replacement, although Weiner’s ninth district could be eliminated.
Colleagues say this isn’t the end for the Congressman and stand by him despite the scandal.
As the White House had previously, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who had been among those calling for an ethics investigation, remained mum on the topic during her press conference this morning.
During his speech, Weiner reiterated his apologies, praised those in his district, and looked back on his own middle-class roots and what brought him to the House of Representatives.
