'Diddy,' 'Magic' to Launch New Comcast Channels

Sean “Diddy” Combs and Earvin “Magic” Johnson are each starting their own TV channels Comcast announced today. The new stations come as part of the deal Comcast made when it merged with NBCUniversal. Comcast will launch 10 independent stations over the next eight years. Eight of those stations will have African-American or Hispanic owners and operators.

Diddy’s station, Revolt, will launch in 2013 and focus on music and pop culture with a strong social media component. Magic Johnson’s network, Aspire, will debut in the summer and will focus on family programming targeting African-American audiences.

Also launching is El Rey, an English-language station targeting Hispanic viewers. Robert Rodriguez, the filmmaker behind Sin City, the Spy Kids franchise, and El Mariachi, is one of the names behind that venture. El Rey is coming in January 2014 and will focus on everything from news and documentaries to music and sports.

And finally, BabyFirst Americas is coming in April, targeting babies and their parents with offerings to improve verbal, math, and motor skills.
