Golden Globe nominations were announced today, and 18 films up for awards have ties to Ronni Chasen, the Hollywood publicist killed on November 16, according to the L.A. Times. In the original score and song categories, she worked with seven of 10 nominees including Burlesque, Alice in Wonderland, and Inception.
Investigators have said they believe that Harold Smith acted alone in the crime, shooting Chasen while riding a bicycle in Beverly Hills. Smith committed suicide earlier this month. However, friends and others have expressed their skepticism over the explanation.
“It’s ridiculous, just ridiculous. It doesn’t add up, and I haven’t talked to anyone who thinks it does,” a publicist friend of Chasen’s Kathie Berlin told the L.A. Times. Beverly Hills PD’s Lt. Tony Lee stands by the story.
The case is still open pending ballistics and coroner’s reports. One lingering question has been answered: there were no shell casings at the scene because the shooter used a .38-caliber revolver.
