In an ongoing effort to provide high-quality video for its website while gaining ad revenue, Twitter has reached a content deal with BBC America, the cable network announced via a tweet:
Specifics of the arrangement have not yet been revealed, but presumably the partnership will be similar to the ones Twitter has in the works with Viacom and NBCUniversal, which will combine TV programming with ads. Twitter wants to host video clips alongside ads, splitting revenue with the networks.
Twitter might be the ideal platform for ad-supported TV shows. The social network now offers the ability to target ads to niche markets based on keywords.
Twitter's foray into the TV business is one of a few moves the company made this week to expand as a multimedia platform. The launch of Twitter #music shows that Twitter is positioning itself as a culture and entertainment epicenter on the Web.
