Topsy's Social Data Now Includes the Very First Tweets

Will brands find seven-year-old Twitter stats useful?

Social analytics firm Topsy has added the entire history of public Twitter messages to its real-time data platform, including stats dating back to the first-ever tweet more than seven years ago. The San Francisco tech company offers a variety of services—from specific sentiment analysis to trends research—based on data culled from the social Web.

"[We have] always been great at helping brands, agencies and other organizations tap into the pulse of the world's conversation in real time," Jamie De Guerre, Topsy's svp of product and marketing, said in a statement. "But now, with every tweet back to 2006 in the index, we're providing an even richer historical context that helps companies understand and deliver on what audiences want, fuel better marketing campaigns, and make better business decisions."

How brands will use social data from that far back remains to be seen. But Topsy's client list is intriguing, with names such as the National Football League, ESPN, Gannett, Geico, CBS, AOL, Nielsen, Digitas and Sparks & Honey.
