Pinterest Hires Twitter Sales Leader to Forge Partner, Agency Ties

Pinterest has filled a top-level sales position, tapping a Twitter veteran to round out its partnerships team as it builds its ad business. Lisa Manowitz started today as the head of partnerships on the East coast, and is based in the New York office, Pinterest told Adweek.

Manowitz joins regional leaders Tram Nguyen on the West coast and Bill Watkins in Chicago. All three report to Joanne Bradford.

Manowitz was at Twitter for three years, where she helped build and manage the East coast sales team, too.

She worked with both brands and agencies, including Unilever, Capital One, Mondelez, Coca-Cola, Starcom and Mindshare, a Pinterest rep told Adweek. Manowitz also spent six years on Yahoo's sales team in New York.

Early in her career, she forged her first agency ties working for Young & Rubicam and Doremus, the rep said.

Pinterest now has 60 million unique monthly visitors, according to comScore. It was valued at about $4 billion when raising $225 million last year.

It is only now starting to test advertising on the site, preparing to open up to more brands and agencies. It will sell Promoted Pins, based on the format of the site where users virtually pin content.

Marketers will be able to buy positions to pin their sponsored content within relevant topics, including travel, fashion, design, home and garden.
