Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has been appointed to Disney’s board of directors.

The Walt Disney Co. announced the move today, and Dorsey follows the footsteps of Steve Jobs, who sat on the board before his death.

Dorsey, 37, co-founded Twitter, which is profiting greatly from its IPO this year, and is CEO of Square, the mobile payments company that's expected to go public soon, too.

“Jack Dorsey is a talented entrepreneur who has helped create groundbreaking new businesses in the social media and commerce spaces,” Disney CEO Robert A. Iger said, in a statement. “The perspective he brings to Disney and its Board is extremely valuable, given our strategic priorities, which include utilizing the latest technologies and platforms to reach more people and to enhance the relationship we have with our customers.”

Dorsey tweeted a quote from Walt Disney: “I only hope we don’t lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse.”

Dorsey is replacing Judith Estrin, who won’t stand for re-election in 2014 because she reached the 15-year limit on board seats at Disney. Shareholders will vote on Dorsey’s appointment in March.
