Veteran Entertainment Editor Joins Nylon

Michelle Lee named EIC

A little more than a month after losing its management team when it was acquired by Diversis Capital LLC, Nylon has a new editor in chief.

Nylon Media evp, CRO and publisher Dana Fields today named longtime beauty/entertainment editor Michelle Lee editor of Nylon and Nylon Guys, effective June 25. Lee has a deep background in entertainment and fashion/beauty coverage. Most recently, Lee was the chief content and strategy officer at brand publishing agency Magnified Media, and prior to that was senior vice president of content of Hollywood.com. Lee has also served as editor in chief of In Touch Weekly and was a founding editor of Us Weekly; her fashion background includes stints at Glamour and CosmoGirl. 

“As an obsessive fashion and culture lover—and former Nylon writer—I’m thrilled to be joining the Nylon team,” said Lee. “To me, the brand has always stood for the cool merger of style and entertainment, so I’m excited to see the evolution and growth of such an already amazing brand.”

Founded in 1999, Nylon has a circulation of 220,557, per the Alliance for Audited Media. In the second half of 2013, its newsstand sales fell 14 percent to 39,355; however, paid subs were up 5 percent to a total 159,202. The magazine boasts a median reader age of 25—nearly a decade younger than competitors like Glamour and Marie Claire, according to the company.
