Layoffs Reach The Advocate

The Advocate laid off a handful of staffers this week, joining a parade of magazines that has slimmed its ranks in recent weeks amid the continued economic slump.

“We are consolidating to make sure we’re operating as effectively as possible for 2010,” said Steve Macias, senior vp at parent Regent Media, confirming the cuts. He said the people affected were editors and production staffers.

The gay-themed publication converted from a biweekly to a monthly early this year to save publishing costs.
