Condé Nast's Loss Is Meredith's Gain

Women's publisher makes hires for 'Rachael Ray,' 'More'

Here's something you don't hear in the magazine business very often: Condé Nast’s loss is Meredith’s gain, again.

The mass magazine publisher hired away Lauren Purcell from Condé Nast’s Self, where she was executive editor, to be editor in chief of Every Day With Rachael Ray, which Meredith bought in October from Reader’s Digest Association.

Also Friday, Meredith hired Sabine Feldmann as publisher of More. Feldmann had been publisher of Condé Nast’s Teen Vogue, but she lost that job recently in a game of musical chairs when Condé gave her job to Jason Wagenheim, whom the company wanted to keep after taking him off Glamour.

Condé Nast had said it would find a new role for Feldmann, but that didn't materialize.

“Sabine will be leaving Condé Nast,” a spokeswoman for the company said yesterday. “There just wasn’t the right spot for her, but she is leaving on good terms.”

Luckily for Feldmann, the publisher’s job at More was available because Meredith had recently moved that title’s publisher, Christine Guilfoyle, to the same job at Rachael Ray.
