Circ Report: Teen Category

Teenagers are relatively recession resistant, the conventional wisdom goes, but newsstand sales for magazines aimed at them would suggest otherwise.

Single-copy sales, considered a barometer of consumer demand, were down in second half for all but Hearst’s Seventeen magazine. The declines hit the Bauer teen titles (J-14, M and Twist) the hardest because unlike most consumer magazines, they rely on the newsstand for the bulk of their circulation.

Seventeen’s and Teen Vogue’s circulations were stable overall with help from paid subs increases.
