As the Viacom merges UPN, it's splitting MTV

Viacom‘s MTV plans to carve up its operations into two units.

Per Reuters, MTV said one unit’s focus will be on “short-form video, music and news content for linear television as well as for online, video on demand, broadband, wireless and other digital vehicles,” while the other will focus on “long-form franchises.”

In simple English, that means that mobile phones are the new boom boxes, and MTV plans to make big bucks selling “50 Cent” on your really small screen.
