What the Apple Tablet Will Look Like and Other Rumors

Like we said, you should expect a lot of Apple tablet gossip in the next few days. Yesterday, Apple Insider heard from a trusted source that one particular rendering, depicted above, is “strikingly close” to the actual tablet design.

Mashable has a slightly friendlier post about the same news, so we suggest you read theirs first. Basically, according to this source, the tablet will look like a first generation iPhone, with the same buttons, a headphone jack, and built-in speakers.

Additionally, MacRumors reports on findings from iLounge, which offers more hopeful details on the tablet. Here’s what they say:

According to the site, the tablet will have two dock connectors to allow the device to be docked in either portrait or landscape orientations. This should allow the device some flexibility when docking with 3rd party accessories, avoiding awkward cable positioning. Next, the back of the tablet is said to be metal but with a “long rear stripe” for wireless broadcasting, akin to the original iPhone due to the fact that metal prevents radio signal transmissions.

Finally, iLounge believes that the new tablet will likely offer optional 3G service in addition to built-in Wi-Fi. This, of course, raises the questions of contract pricing for this data service.
