Twitter is planning to invest more in the fast-growing internet and social media market in India, reveals Katie Jacobs Stanton, Twitter’s vice president of global media.
Total internet users are expected to reach 302 million in India next month, and Twitter wants to capitalise.
“India is a big market for us,” said Stanton, “It is one of our fastest growing markets and we will be investing more here.”
Twitter has 284 million active users but has struggled to sustain growth in recent months. More than three-quarters (78 percent) of Twitter’s total traffic now comes from outside the U.S., and the company hopes to bolster its membership by expanding its presence in India and the Asia-Pacific.
“India is a growing market, which can be ascertained by the fact that the Lok Sabha elections generated about 60 million tweets,” added Stanton.
Earlier this month Twitter revealed plans to open its first office in Hong Kong to better cater to companies and increase advertising revenues in China.
