Twitter: From Zero To 200 Million Tweets A Day In 5 Years [INFOGRAPHIC]
On Friday Twitter celebrated its five-year birthday – while the platform’s technical birth was on March 21, Twitter first opened its doors to the general public on July 15, 2006.
As we noted in our piece, a lot has changed in those five years. And this new infographic from Visual.ly shows us just how much.
Highlights from the visualisation include:
- 200 million tweets are now sent on Twitter each day
- This is up from 2 million in January 2009 and 32 million in January 2010
- Even as recently as September 2010 it was ‘just’ 90 million/day, which means Twitter has more than double its daily tweet rate in less than 10 months
- 350 billion tweets are delivered each day (each tweet is delivered to multiple followers’ timelines)
