1. Twitter Influences More Consumer Purchases Than Facebook
According to a recent study, it looks like Twitter is more influential than Facebook when it comes to influencing purchases. 35 percent of respondents said their Twitter feed has been influential or extremely influential on their purchase decisions, while only 23.5 percent of Facebook users said the same.
American President Barack Obama has passed 10 million followers on Twitter, reaching this total on Saturday, September 10. In doing so he becomes the third Twitter user to pass the lofty target, following in the footsteps of such luminaries as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
It’s 6:30 a.m., and your alarm clock’s shrill buzz fills your bedroom. You roll over and, still half asleep, hit the Snooze button for an extra 15 minutes of blissful sleep. But then you wake up with a start, quickly grab your iPhone and log on to Twitter. Your alarm clock just punished you for hitting snooze by tweeting “I’m dressed as a sailor today!” to your 1,458 followers.
New research by CNBC has revealed that the use of Twitter amongst business leaders and decision makers has almost doubled in a year. The survey, which polled a sample of European executives in how they use social media platforms and technology, observed that the use of Twitter as a business and marketing tool is up to 61%, versus 31% just 12 months ago.
Ever since Twitter open its doors way back in July 2006, the Twitter.com homepage has gone through many different design and interface changes. And as recently as this August, everybody was upgraded to the controversial New Twitter, with all of its bells and whistles, nooks and crannies, whether they liked it or not. But five years is a long time. What did Twitter look like way back when?
State of the Media: Social Media Report Q3, a new report from Nielsen, analyzes the enormous influence that social media now has on consumer behavior. While the report predominately looks at activity in the USA, the findings are also consistent across international markets, and there’s no evidence that the rise of social media is going to be slowing down anytime soon.
Back in March we looked at who amongst all of the profiles on Twitter followed the most amount of users, and (somewhat pleasingly) President Barack Obama was leading the way, some distance ahead of number two-placed Whole Foods Market. Well, things can change pretty quickly on Twitter, and the President is no longer sitting on top of the most-following pile.
Website owners, rejoice: Twitter is taking the lid off of a powerful new suite of tools for you to measure how much traffic it sends to your site.
It’s taken a while, but Twitter has finally focused its attention on not-so-recently purchased TweetDeck. And it’s attention comes in the form of an axe. The first feature to get chopped from TweetDeck is its deck.ly app, which enabled users to tweet things longer than 140 characters by redirecting those interested in reading the extended post to a separate web page.
If you’re having trouble finding interesting people on Google+, why not look to the network you have already built – namely, your Twitter friends? It’s easy to look up which of your followers and friends are on Twitter, so you can hear more from them than 140 characters allows.
