Thumbplay Announces Layoffs

Thumbplay, the NYC-based mobile content firm, announced company-wide layoffs today, according to Silicon Alley Insider. One anonymous source pegged the cuts at 25 percent, though a Thumbplay rep said the actual percentage was lower without specifying how much.

“Today, we informed members of our team about reductions in our staff,” CEO Are Traasdahl said in the article. “While difficult, these personnel decisions recognize the realities of the economy.”

He said in the report that the company plans to exceed year-over-year revenue growth in 2008 by more than 50 percent over 2007, “and even by conservative estimates, 2009 will be another solid growth year.”
