A survey of 7,700 teenagers in the U.S. has revealed that Facebook is still the social network of choice amongst the younger demographic, followed by Twitter and Instagram, says a new study from Piper Jaffray.
While Facebook’s stock continues to stagnate following it’s lacklustre IPO, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says that the company remains “well positioned to maintain its spot as the top social network despite competition from Twitter”.
Instagram, of course, is owned by Facebook, and its third-placing standing amongst teens and twenty-somethings will be pleasing to Mark Zuckerberg at al.
Moreover, a separate study of more than 750 Facebook users courtesy of Sterne Agee noted that 18-29 year-old users are spending about the same time on Facebook as they did six months ago, despite an increase in the number of ads now being seen.
However, the same poll also revealed that just one third (33 percent) of Facebook’s mobile users said that they’re happy with the service, which could be beneficial to Twitter.
“Given how critical mobile is to Facebook’s future, we believe the percentage of ‘extremely satisfied’ needs to improve,” said Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, although he also concluded that the “long-term opportunity is large” for the company.
