  • New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center signed with city firm CooperKatz & Company. CooperKatz will work with the center to help design and implement a strategic communications plan created to increase awareness and enhance the Center’s reputation with the help of an ad campaign created by AOR Pereira & O’Dell; it will also aid in efforts to share the standards developed there with health care institutions around the world. Sloan-Kettering is the world’s oldest, largest private cancer research center, and we truly cannot overstate the importance of the work done there.

  • Hiltzik Strategies is advising Janay Rice, wife of shamed football star Ray Rice, as he attempts to make a comeback. The New York Times notes that more than 15 outlets wanted the interview that eventually went to Matt Lauer and that reporters effectively “auditioned with her to get an interview.” NPR reporter David Folknenflik calls this strategy “classic Hiltzik maneuvering“; make of that what you will. (h/t O’Dwyer’s)
  • Warschawski of Baltimore will represent Brazil’s largest sportswear brand Track&Field as it expands into the United States. The company recently opened its first stateside store on Madison Avenue, and Warchawski looks to raise awareness as the 2016 Summer Games approach. The firm will coordinate media/blogger relations, social media outreach, and events — some of which will hopefully include the word “caipirinha.”
  • LA’s MOVEMENT Public Relations will be AOR for LJL Designs of San Francisco, an interior design company started by famed designer Lisa Lorino. The firm will provide media relations and PR counsel to help increase exposure for the business, which has worked with multiple hotels and helped design the homes of “some of Hollywood’s top actors and actresses.”
  • Florida/Georgia-based Axia PR signed indoor trampoline park chain Rebounderz as its newest client. The firm will use its own “NewsBureau” media relations unit to raise awareness of the chain, highlighting the safety and health benefits of the trampoline experience (we’ve been hurt by trampolines in the past, so we can’t emphasize this point enough).
  • NKPR, a firm based in Toronto and New York, expanded its talent management division with the addition of three new clients: Syl Tanga journalist and “trend expert/futurist” who has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Financial TimesSophie Elgort, a New York-based fashion photographer; and Nastia Liukin, a Russian-American gymnast and Olympic Gold Medalist. The firm will handle appearances, endorsements and more for the newest members of its roster.
  • Child’s Play Communications of Manhattan will be PR AOR for iDeaUSA as the company prepares to promote two new products: a tablet just for kids and Q Whoo, a messaging app that “protects kids while connecting families.” The firm will focus on blogger relations in winning mentions and reviews for the products, though we do question the tablet’s ability to prevent kids from playing “random mindless games,” aka the BEST KIND.
