Barcelona-based social game developer Social Point revealed today that it has closed a Series B round of funding totaling in $7.4 million. The funding is led by Idinvest Partners and BBVA, as well as existing investor Nauta Capital.
Social Point plans to use the funds to hire new staff across the company, develop new social games and expand onto mobile platforms. We’ve known about the move to mobile for a while, as CEOs Andrés Bou and Horacio Martos told us in April that the company is working to bring their popular Facebook games Social Empires and Social Wars to iOS sometime later this year. The recently-released Dragon City is even more popular than Social Empires and Social Wars, so it’s possible Social Point might be planning to bring that title to mobile platforms, too.
Social Point’s found success pursuing the male-dominated mid-core market on Facebook. This strategy has worked for the developer since it launched in 2008, as its user base continues to grow steadily: Currently, the company’s seeing its highest number of monthly active users since September 2011 with 15.4 million MAU and a peak of 2.67 million daily active users.
