About 150 million of India’s 1.2 billion people are online, ranking the country third overall behind China and the United States for regions with the most internet users, making it an increasingly significant source of website traffic.
Indeed, some 58 people from India visited Facebook in March of this year, reports eMarketer, a figure which is more than ten times that who visited Twitter. However, Facebook’s number has fallen slightly year-on-year, while Twitter’s has risen from 3.9 million visitors in 2013 to 4.2 million in 2014. *
Pinterest is also up, climbing from 1.5 million visitors to 2.1 million. LinkedIn ranks as the number two social platform in India, but has seen no growth year-on-year. Orkut, meanwhile, which was once the most popular social network in the country, continues to plummet.
* This figure clashes somewhat wildly with a We Are Social study from July of this year.
