In an abrupt turn of events, Chris Allen is leaving Bonnier Corp. less than a month after being named to a group sales job.
The former longtime publisher of Time Inc.’s Cooking Light was named vp of group publishing and corporate sales for nine of Bonnier’s travel, shelter and lifestyle titles, including Spa and Caribbean Travel.
The job was one of two group publishing roles that privately held Bonnier has created as it has expanded rapidly over the past couple of years through acquisitions of enthusiast titles from Time Inc. and Hachette Filipacchi Media.
Allen, who was leaving without having another job lined up, said the role he was hired for didn’t meet his expectations but that the parting was “very amicable and agreeable.”
“It was more of a three- to four-week consulting trial,” Allen said. “I just think the nature of the job to be done on the particular titles was not what I expected it to be. I think I thought it was a larger, more strategic task than it was.”
In a statement, a Bonnier rep said only that Allen was a “very talented individual, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.” The rep said no replacement would be named.
