POLITICO All-Staff Meeting Described as ‘Cult-Like’

Hundreds of POLITICOs came together at Tuesday’s all-staff meeting at The Hamilton coined “Politico Presents: Where we are and where we’re going” and since, we’ve received mixed reactions from those in attendance. While some left energized and excited for POLITICO’s future, others described the ‘event’ as a “cult-like” experience.

The meeting, first reported by The Huffington Post’s Michael Calderone, featured insight to the outlet’s European expansion in partnership with Axel Springer from editor-in-chief John Harris, CEO Jim VandeHei, and publisher Robert Allbritton.

In true POLITICO form, VandeHei interviewed Allbritton, who connected with staff by sharing stories of what he likes to do in his spare time: fly his new private plane. He also recalled childhood play dates at the White House with the daughter of President Jimmy Carter.

Mike Allen served as emcee. COO Kim Kingsley unveiled floor plans for its new Arlington office space. And recently named editor Susan Glasser spoke about other recent newsroom hires and displayed plans for an upcoming website redesign. Before dispersing to an open bar, Glasser moderated a panel consisting of Glenn Thrush, Carrie Budoff Brown, John Bresnahan, and new hire Michael Grunwald on their predictions for 2016.

The highlight for many though was a stylish new piece of wearable swag attendees walked away with.

We highly anticipate seeing this t-shirt worn proudly by the Kool-Aid sipping staff of the Rosslyn-based political news outlet. There’s no better way to subtly declare plans for world domination than fitting your army in a stylish new work sponsored gym shirt.

It just leaves us wondering…where can we get one?
