Chicago police charged a 24-year-old man for circulating via Facebook a photo of an underage girl having sex with him. Others who shared the picture may face charges as well.

Leroy Stephenson was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and child pornography because of the explicit photos he took that were shared on Facebook.

Investigators got involved after the girl’s mother notified the police about finding the photos on Facebook. Police interviewed Stephenson and he said he was in a sexual relationship with the girl since last winter when she was just 15.

Investigators believe Stephenson sent the picture of the girl from his cell phone to another person, and at least 10 more people received the explicit photos through text messaging on their phones. After that, the photo was shared on multiple Facebook pages.

“How far it went we’re not quite clear but we do know that the town where this occurred, Ford Heights, it appears as if a great deal of the town has seen the photograph,” said Sheriff Tom Dart.

The girl’s family asked Facebook to take down the pictures once they learned of their existence, according to nwi.com. The girl said Stephenson pursued her relentlessly for more than two years in order to gain her confidence in having a relationship with an older man. Eventually, she let him have a sexual relationship, she said.

A Cook County judge set bond at $75,000, and Stephenson’s next court date is set for February 3. The area’s Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating the case.
