PBS Oil Leak Widget, Video Draws Major Traffic

PBS says that its Gulf oil leak widget and live video from the leak was viewed more than a million times Wednesday. While the widget, which tracks how much oil has been leaking into the Gulf of Mexico, was released May 9, it is being constantly refreshed with new features and information.

Likewise, the video of the spill has been transcoded into a format to make it easier to view in all web browsers.

The response has been tremendous, as well over one million viewers have flocked to the video via the PBS Newshour and NPR websites, as well as other channels such as YouTube and Google which have embedded the widget and video feed.
