For the first (and certainly not the last) time, a feature film has been distributed on mobile phones.
“Rage,” a fashion-world murder mystery starring a well-known Hollywood cast and directed by Sally Potter, made its debut over the past week via seven parts downloadable to Apple’s iPhone.
Here’s Sarah Perez from ReadWriteWeb:
Released last week through the iPhone/iPod Touch mobile application Babelgum (iTunes link), the film represents the first ever attempt to distribute a feature film for free by way of mobile phones. In fact, the mobile platform didn’t just serve as the place for the film to make its debut – it was the primary distribution channel as well.
The cast includes many recognizable names such as Jude Law, Steve Buscemi, John Leguizamo, Dame Judi Dench, Eddie Izzard and Dianne Wiest. To accommodate and take advantage of the tiny screen size, Potter shot the film exclusively as a series of close-up interviews of witnesses to a fatal runway accident.
Unfortunately, even when debuting on the smallest of screens, the heartless critics will find you:
“Rage” delivers the stunning news — hold onto your seats — that the fashion industry is shallow and exploitative, in the dullest manner possible.

Tonight Babelgum will show the movie in its entirety and host an interactive Q&A with director Potter.
