Barnes & Noble released a new update for the Nook Color today, and users are already reporting that it’s playing merry hell with their tablets.
This is the v1.4.1 update, and it brings the NookColor up to date with the Nook Tablet, which had 1.4 on launch. This update brings over a hundred new features and improvements, including the Netflix app,a new reading mode and more font options, a redesigned NookStore, and it also gives users access to several new apps including a new reading app for comics.
The update will be pushed out to all NC over the next week, but if you don’t want to wait you can get the update here: www.nookcolor.com/update.
There are already some reports over at XDA Forums. It looks like the update breaks a few of the hacks, but not all. Some users are reporting that they updated their Nook Color and could still run thrid party firmwares like Cyanogen Mod, just so long as it was on the microSD card. One reported that the third party apps he installed still worked, but he lost the unofficial Android market that he had installed. Others reported that they had to hack their NC again, and that repeating the tricks they used before worked just fine.
There was also an early but erroneous report that this update might allow for installing third party apps, just like you can on the Nook Tablet. Sadly, this turned out not to be true.
