Snacks, beverages, remote control, and Facebook? With week one of the National Football League’s 2013 season in the books, the social network announced that starting with the opening game last Thursday night, some 30 million users created more than 60 million interactions related to the league’s opening week.
Facebook put those figures in perspective by comparing them with some television numbers:
- The TV viewing audience for the opening game on NBC Thursday night — in which the Denver Broncos blew out the visiting Baltimore Ravens, the defending Super Bowl champions, 49-27 — was 25.1 million, nearly setting a record.
- “Sunday Night Football,” also on NBC — which saw the Dallas Cowboys edge the visiting New York Giants, 36-31 — drew 18.7 million viewers.
- The first game of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” doubleheader — in which the Washington Redskins fell to the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, 33-27 — tallied some 9 million viewers.
