Movies on a Cell Phone? No Way. Not Yet.

Forget about trying to convince adults to watch a feature-length movie on a cell phone; the online services are having a touch enough time getting them to legally download movies to watch on a PC, according to a New York Times article citing a survey from the Diffusion Group.

Less than 10% of the broadband-connected folks surveyed admitted to using a movie download service like Movielink or Amazon Unbox, with a mere 1% saying they use such a service frequently.

As for watching long-form video on a mobile phone, only 2% of respondents find the ability “extremely important.” According to the report, consumers just aren’t ready to watch video on the really small screen. “All our research keeps pointing at a lack of interest among consumers in viewing video on the mobile phone,” report author Michael Greeson said in the Times article.
