Mobile Game News Roundup: Thanksgiving 2014 Edition

High School StoryThanksgiving is right around the corner (for those that celebrate it this week), and app developers are capitalizing on the holiday by giving us all something to be thankful for: content updates in popular games, from High School Story to Spider-Man Unlimited and beyond. Here’s a look at a few of those updates, available across smartphones and tablets.

High School Story (iOS, Android, Amazon) – Pixelberry Studios has released two new quest series for the high school simulation game. One focuses on building floats for the school’s Thanksgiving parade, while the other sees classmates gathering around the dinner table to celebrate “Friendsgiving.” In addition, players can purchase the “Thankful Turkey Bundle” for $6.99, or the “Cornucopia Bundle” for $11.99. Both bundles contain Rings, Coins and Books (the game’s three currencies), with the Thankful Turkey bundle also including a turkey costume for a student to wear, and the Cornucopia bundle offering a Harvest Float decoration. The Thanksgiving Parade quest line will run through November 30, while the Friendsgiving event lasts until December 5.

Heroes Charge (iOS, Android) – Players of uCool’s RPG and MOBA hybrid are being invited to join the company on Facebook for a “Thanksgiving Blitz” throughout the upcoming long holiday weekend. On Thanksgiving proper, November 27, players will be introduced to the game’s new heroes, including Prime the Rifleman, Tuskar the Deathgore and Iron Hoof the Centaur. On Black Friday, November 28, players will be given tips for how to plunder the new Booty Cave location within the game. On November 30, the game’s developers will release a crafting guide to help players achieve greater victories in battle. Oregon Trail: American Settler (iOS, Android, Amazon) – Gameloft’s village simulation title challenges players to harvest as many pumpkins as they can during a limited time event, starting on November 27, and lasting through November 30. There are three main prizes available during the event. On November 27, players work to earn a rare Bronze Turkey, while on November 28, they work to earn a Potluck Stand. Finally, on November 29, players work to earn a Country House for their town.Asphalt 8 AirborneAsphalt 8: Airborne (iOS, Google Play, Amazon) – Racing fans can participate in the “Gobble Gobble Cup,” working to earn an extra booster tank, credits and even a Pagani Huayra for their accounts. The event is a Class D “classic” race, and takes place on the London Main track. Gamers will have access to this event from November 27 to November 30.World at ArmsWorld at Arms (iOS, Google Play, Amazon) – While this event may not scream “Turkey Day,” the game’s “Homevisit” event update will be available form November 27 to November 30, and challenges players to attack and destroy others in invade-based battles. Prizes include an Air Force Academy, Gold Stars and a Lincoln Memorial. A Tech Institute will also be added to the game’s store, and currency packs will be on sale for up to 40 percent off.Blitz BrigadeBlitz Brigade (iOS, Android) – The game’s “Gobble Gobble” event will see players competing to unlock an M1 Lockram sniper rifle for their account. The event takes place from November 27 to December 3, and will challenge players to only use primary weapons (with no class requirements).

Spider-Man Unlimited (iOS, Google Play, Windows Phone) – The Spider-Man themed endless runner has been updated with the Thanksgiving Throwdown event, which asks players to defeat as many enemies as possible (while running) to earn points. If they knock out enough enemies, users can unlock the Iron Spider character, while high score rewards include a Superior Spider-Man character. This event runs through November 28.2020MyCountry2020: My Country (iOS, Android, Amazon, Windows Phone) – Game Insight’s city-builder has been updated with Thanksgiving quests and items, including the Auburn Turkey Statue, which can be sent between friends as a gift. Users can visit their friends to catch runaway turkeys, and players will prepare their towns for a Thanksgiving celebration before celebrating on Mayfloweer Square.
