With two blockbuster films and a chart-topping app that’s now reached over 100 million downloads, it’s safe to say that the world is swept up in Minion Mania.
In fact, it took less than three months for the free-to-play Despicable Me: Minion Rush to reach the 100 million download mark, with gamers already spending a staggering 260 million hours inside the app, collecting 2,000 billion bananas along the way.
Due to this immense popularity, publisher Gameloft is already boosting the product by announcing the all-new summer-themed Minion Beach area to the game. With the update, gamers will not only be able to run through the sandy environment, they will also see new debut of costumes like Snorkler Minion and Surfer Minion finally make their way into the product. Minion Beach is available now on Google Play, with an update in the Apple Store promised soon.
This is just the latest update to the hugely successful title, as earlier this summer, Gameloft released El Macho’s Lair, complete with the villainous El Macho character and the evil purple minions made popular in Despicable Me 2.
And with a Minion-centric spin-off film already scheduled for December 2014, I have a feeling this won’t be the last time we’ll see these funny little henchmen running endlessly on our mobile devices (and up the free-to-play charts).
