Miley’s Twerking Won’t Stop Driving Video Views

Chicken-starring spoof tops YouTube charts; PewDiePie takes up five slots

The VMAs are two weeks old, but the impact of Miley Cyrus' titillating twerking session continues to be felt. An instructional clip featuring a twerking Barbie doll and a chicken (with Miley's photo placed where the chicken's head should be) took the top spot on Adweek's VideoWatch video series charts (powered by VidIQ)—generating nearly 7.58 million views in a week, along with 79,000 likes and close to 45,000 Facebook shares. Great job, millennials.

Speaking of twerking, even PewDiePie got in on the act. The Swedish sensation continued his wild ascent, accounting for five of the top 10 clips on the weekly ranking.

NOTE: Adweek’s VideoWatch Chart, powered by VidIQ, reveals the Top 10 Web Series Videos on YouTube every week. The chart tracks more than just pure views; VidIQ incorporates sharing data from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, among other data sources, in an effort to measure true engagement. Every video is also ranked with VidIQ's proprietary score which helps judge the likelihood of a video being promoted in YouTube Related Videos, Search and Recommended Videos.

The ranking is also meant to capture "born on the Web" YouTube content. Thus, material like clips from TV shows, movie trailers and music videos are not included.
