Lagardère Publishing’s eBook Revenue Up 88%

Lagardère Publishing saw eBook sales rise 88% in Q1 2011, compared to Q1 2010. These eBook sales accounted for approximately 22% of revenue in the United States and 5% in the UK. A press release attributed the growth to brisk sales of eReaders at the end of 2010.

Overall sales for the quarter were down 9.8% over the same quarter in 2010. The press press release said the drop was expected: “There was an expected decline in consolidated revenue, with first quarter 2010 comparatives remaining high due to the success of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series.”

The company expects eBook sales to continue to rise this year, but at a slower pace. The company is predicting that sales in the United States will reach 15% to 20% of revenues. In addition, eBooks could account for 5% to 10% of revenues in the U.K. in 2011.
