Jokes.com Wants Amateur Standup Videos
Comedy Central’s recently revamped Jokes.com is looking to discover the next Chris Rock or Sarah Silverman by inviting amateur comedians to submit videos of themselves doing standup.
The site has rolled out a new monthly competition its calling Open Mic Challenge for wannabe Seinfelds’ clips of their best homemade standup. The user-generated comic videos will be featured on Jokes.com and ComedyCentral.com, as well as Facebook and various mobile platforms—and users can vote on the favorites.
Then each month, the top videos as selected by users and network staffers will be showcased on Comedy Central as interstitial programming—the first of which will air during the upcoming July 4 weekend (Comedian Kristen Schaal will host the on-air presentation of the user-supplied clips).
