iBooks Updated – Now Supports Reading Aloud

Apple released a new version of its reading app yesterday, and it’s one you might want t0 download now. iBooks v1.3 has a number of bug fixes and minor tweaks, but it also has a major new feature. Select children’s books from the iBookstore will now have a read-aloud feature to help them understand the words and learn to read.

This isn’t text to speech, unfortunately. It appears to be a way to embed an audio file and integrate it into specific parts of the text. It’s fairly common for children’s book apps to have this feature, and at least one other reading app, Blio, also has it.
