iBooks Updated Includes Read-Aloud And Enhanced eBook Support

As part of Apple’s new iCloud platform, iBooks has a new update available today.

The latest iBooks update is Version 1.3. It adds several new features including a read-aloud feature aimed at teaching kids how to read. The read-aloud feature includes a narrator that will read aloud and in some cases will include word underlining to help kids follow along.

Additional features to the update include enhanced books. Now you can play videos and audio in books from within the iBookstore. This is cool because it means that publishers don’t have to release enhanced eBooks solely in the iTunes store.

The update also fixes a page viewing bug where some books may display the same page twice.
