David Chartier of OneFPS blog has heard a surprising piece of data from an insider at Apple. According to his source, somewhere around half of iPhone owners who go to an Apple Store to get their iPhone replaced have never synced their iPhone with iTunes.
This means that they’ve never backed up their apps and content, and it also means that they’ve never updated the firmware. The latter is more important, really; it means that their iPhones still have the same security holes and bugs that came with the device when it was new.
This could be the reason Apple is pushing the new PC-free sync option for iOS, where you can sync and update your device over wifi. Apple would definitely track a detail like this and find a way to protect customers.
