Google is taking on Groupon and other copycat type services with a new beta service called Google Offers, in which consumers can purchase discounted products in their area through time sensitive offers. The first Google Offers deal launched today, $3 for a $10 voucher at Floyd’s Coffee Shop in Portland, OR.
This kind of service could be a great way to further Google’s partnerships with indie booksellers and get readers to test out eBooks. Perhaps a Google Offer could be $3 for a $10 voucher for eBooks from Powell’s Bookstore. Or it could be used to drive readers into bookstores with deals on coffee in the store.
