Google Found: Tablet Users Say it is Displacing TV, PC & Smartphone Use

Early in Microsoft’s history (1977), co-founder Bill Gates said that his goal was to have a computer on every desk. Flash forward to today and Google’s goal appears to be to have Google advertisements on every display of every kind. Apple’s iPad reinvigorated the tablet computer market (started, ironically, by Microsoft). So, Google wants to how consumers (note Google does not talk about just “people”) use tablets. Here’s what they found:

Tablets are changing the way consumers engage with content

– 82% said they use their tablet primarly at home
– 77% said they are using their desktop/notebook less after getting a tablet
– 68% of tablet owners use it at least 1 hour per day
– 33%+ use a tablet while watching TV

A large percentage of the 1400 tablet users surveyed reported that they used their tablet more than their PC, smartphone, or TV.
