Google has released an update of the Gmail app for phones running Android 2.2. Nexus One, HTC EVO, Motorola Droid 2 and Motorola Droid users should receive a notification that an update is available in the Android market. The updated adds the following to the Gmail app:
– As you scroll through a message buttons to Star the message or Reply To it stick to the top of the message as shown in the following screenshot:

– You can now have hidden quoted text display to reveal the previous messages of a long message thread
– The app now supports the Important label that was added to Gmail as part of Priority Inbox. To see messages that Gmail labeled as Important tap Menu, Go To Labels in the Gmail app and then tap Important.
There is a known issue with the new version of Gmail running on HTC phones where the message action buttons do not stick to the top of the message. Google is working on the problem.
