Today’s free eBook is so old that it almost qualifies as a historical document. The University of Chicgao Press is giving away a WWII era Army manual this month.
Instructions for American Servicemen in France during World War II is an 84 page briefing manual that was issued to all US Army personnel before they were deployed to France. The book is a mix of guidebook, cultural snapshot, and propaganda, so it’s not what you would call factually accurate. It was originally written to prepare US soldiers for encounters with French civilians and to create a positive mindset in the soldier so there would be fewer unpleasant incidents.
The eBook is a free download during the month of December, but because it comes with DRM you will need Adobe Digital Editions to download the eBook.
