Flipboard, maker of the iPad reading app, announced late last night that it would soon introduce its first adverts.
Condé Nast and Flipboard have signed a deal to bring The New Yorker, Wired and Bon Appétit to the Flipboard app, with all content completely free to the reader. They’ve already signed American Express as the main advertiser of The New Yorker, with its campaign starting today. Lexus will follow suit in October with ads in Bon Appétit, The New Yorker and Wired.
“Condé Nast continues to create new experiences for their content that also brings new reach to their advertisers. We are excited to be a part of this overarching strategy and bring their amazing stories, images, publications and advertisers to readers on Flipboard,” said Mike McCue, CEO of Flipboard.
Flipboard is known for its sparse layouts, so it will be interestign to see how it integratesc full-page ads. There’s only going to be a limited number of ad slots, and all ads wiil link to the advertisers website (or other content).
