Employees are far more likely to have access to computers during the work day than they are to television sets, so it wasn’t much of a surprise that more respondents to a recent survey use Facebook than watch TV between 9 am and 5 pm.
According to a study from Frank N. Magid Associates, the only age group to favor TV over Facebook during the traditional work day was the baby boomer group (aged 47 to 65), 35 percent versus 26 percent.
Those aged 8 to 14 tied at 16 percent for each for TV and Facebook.
Facebook beat out TV from 9 am to 5 pm for those aged:
- 15 to 17 years, 30 percent versus 24 percent;
- 18 to 34 years, 44 percent versus 32 percent, and
- 35 to 46 years 32 percent versus 28 percent.
Insomniacs apparently favor television, as well, as the same was true for all age categories between 11 pm to 2 am, although the gap between TV and Facebook was not as large as it was for primetime.
