Facebook Live Saddles Up for NBC’s Kentucky Derby Coverage

NBC said in an email to SocialTimes that the Peacock Paddock features a wall of live red roses (the race is referred to as the “Run for the Roses”), jockey silks representing each horse and a 55-inch interactive touch screen.

The network added that Facebook Live will be incorporated into its exclusive red-carpet show, and celebrities attending the race will walk down the “pink and red carpet,” share their picks, show off what they’re wearing via custom-made 360-degree stop-motion cameras and participate in interviews.

NBC will incorporate other social networks into its Derby coverage, providing behind-the-scenes access via Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

In addition, interactive agency Viget designed a tweet-powered brooch that will be worn by Johnny Weir, and as more Twitter users discuss Weir’s Derby hat using the hashtag #watchmeneighneigh, the horse on the brooch will gallop faster and illuminate.
