The debate continues over how important likes on Facebook brand pages are for marketing, but we find it hard to ascribe any importance whatsoever to a new application called Like Wars.
Like Wars seems to be using likes for content posted by Facebook users (not brand pages) to compile its list of “The Kings of Facebook.”
We say “seems” because neither the app’s Facebook page, nor the app itself, offers any information on how it operates.
But since Facebook users can’t like other Facebook users’ pages, it must be likes collected for status updates, posted content, comments, etc.
An email from developer Shay Priel wasn’t exactly enlightening, either:
Who is the most popular person on Facebook? Want to find out who has the most likes? Like Wars enables you to find out who has the most likes among your friends, country, and globally!
Who has the most likes on Facebook is a question everybody asks. With Like Wars, we can answer this question. I hope that some celebrities will install this app. My guess is that some of them will be in first place in the all-time category — Kings of Facebook (My bet will be Mark Zuckerberg 😉 ).
Readers: Any interest in trying to become one of “The Kings of Facebook?” My advice is to settle for remaining a lowly peasant and avoid Like Wars.
