How time has flown: Today Facebook celebrates eight years of existence.
Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg posted a status update, shown above, commemorating the date, which quickly circulated on the site as subscribers clicked the share button.
As of this writing, her post congratulating all Facebook employees garnered 4,060 likes and 288 shares. A number of the commenters reflected on what has happened during the eight years and also congratulated Sheryl and her colleagues on the forthcoming initial public offer.
Indeed the company has come a long way since its founding in Mark Zuckerberg’s dorm room at Harvard.
It’s not inaccurate to say that the founding Chief Executive Officer’s often-stated goal of wanting to change the world has come to fruition, at least to the extent that people connected with those they otherwise wouldn’t have, from lost loved ones to support groups.
What do you consider Facebook’s biggest accomplishments during this time?
