On today’s social media edition of the Morning Media Menu, GalleyCat editor Jason Boog announced a  new writing contest where readers can rewrite the first page of a Victorian vampire novel for inclusion in a digital anthology and other rewards.

The World’s Longest Literary Vampire Remix starts with the 19th-century classic, Varney the VampireExplained Boog, “You will rewrite a small section from the book your own unique style (from poetry to Twitter updates to cartoons to imitations of your favorite writer). We will publish the final product as a free digital book (complete with Victorian-era illustrations) that anyone can download.”

Participants can compete for a free pass to our Media App Summit coming up on December 3 or a free mediabistro class.

Also in the podcast, we discussed new statistics from Pew that show that more people are reading the news on their tablets and smartphones than socializing; and an app called Pint Club that helps you find, tag, and share new beers with friends.
