Move over Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber—social media is buzzing about some new celebrities this year! New data from social media monitoring platform Fizziology reveals the ten celebs that have seen the biggest increase in social media chatter this year. Some of the names may surprise you!
Fizziology has been tracking all major movie stars, television stars and musicians for more than a year and has been keeping tabs on the social media chatter surrounding these stars since January 1 of this year. Via spikes in this data, Fizziology determined which stars have had the largest percent of increase in buzz since the beginning of the year. The following celebrities showed the biggest increase in social media buzz.
#1 Sara Ramirez
Sara Ramirez, better known to many as Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy, has seen the most social media growth this year. The buzz surrounding Ramirez has increased a whopping 2036%, thanks to her center-stage role on Grey’s and a new album release.
#2 Chris Hemsworth
Thanks to his role as Thor, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has seen a 1540% increase in social media chatter this year.
#3 Kyle Chandler
The final season of Friday Night Lights paired with a starring role in Super 8 led to a 1452% increase in buzz surrounding actor Kyle Chandler.
#4 Danny McBride
Danny McBride enjoyed a 1390% increase in social media buzz this year, due largely to a hilarious K-Swiss campaign starring his character Kenny Powers. The movie Your Highness also helped spread the buzz.
#5 Hugh Laurie
Hugh Laurie not only finished up yet another season of the hit show House, but he also released a blues album this year. The L’Oreal Men commercial he did didn’t hurt either and the actor saw a 1046% increase in buzz this year.
#6 Michael Sheen
No, not Charlie Sheen…Michael Sheen. This Twilight actor saw significant buzz this year, with an increase of 956%.
#7 Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks has seen a 666% increase in buzz so far this year, thanks in part to the fact that he joined Twitter this year. He also took part in a viral video campaign urging the Pulitzer Board to give the Onion a Pulitzer Prize
#8 Bryan Cranston
Not only has Bryan Cranston blown audiences away in Breaking Bad this year, but announcements that he would be starring in a number of big 2012 movies, including Total Recall, John Carter and Rock of Ages, helped increase the social media chatter about the actor by 652%.
#9 Jennette McCurdy
Thanks to the fact that the iCarly star released her first album this year, Jennette McCurdy saw a 647% increase in buzz.
#10 Kristin Chenoweth
Finally, coming in at number 10, Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth saw a 606% increase in buzz thanks to a series of guest appearances on Glee.
